MEJI MEJI

Meji Meji highlights and celebrates Nigerian beauty and culture. Initially taught by her mother, a fashion apprentice, how to cut patterns on coupon paper, designer Tolu Oye would study fashion at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). Having always been inspired by Black culture — vintage African-American style, West African textile patterns, and Juju music, Oye decided to create Meji Meji — a brand that would celebrate and pay homage to her inspirations. The brand is also committed to sustainability and women’s empowerment. Meji Meji sources all its materials from local Nigerian artisans and the garments are tailored by an all-woman team. Meji Meji works to recenter and redefine the way Nigeria culture is perceived by showcasing its culture, beauty, and nostalgia.
